How to Bless Your Spouse

This weekend I had the opportunity to really bless my husband. He recently turned thirty but didn’t get the chance to really celebrate due to some work obligations on his actual birthday.

You see, my husband’s love language is gifts. This doesn’t mean that he is materialistic or overly values “things.” However, it does mean that he see love through giving and values gifts with sincere meaning behind them. By giving him a sincere gift, it shows him that I truly love him. As our marriage has progressed, I have become better and better at learning his love language. We have opposite gifts, so it definitely took me some time to speak his “language” correctly! 🙂

Over the years I have known him, he has had one major bucket list item that he would want as a gift: to see Third Eye Blind in concert. My husband is a HUGE Third Eye Blind fan, but has never had the opportunity to see them live. He has either missed a concert, or the band was not touring or was touring overseas, or we had a previous commitment when they would come to town.

I have spent many years trying to surprise him with tickets, to no avail. Finally, when he turned thirty in January, I found out that the band would be playing a concert at Sea World in Orlando this February. I decided to go ahead and purchase tickets for him as a surprise! I even managed to secure overnight babysitting so we could go on a mini-weekend date to the show.

When I finally told him, he was SO EXCITED because he knew this would be a big life event. We made the trip to Sea World this weekend, and were able to spend some time in the park before the show. The sea animals were amazing to see, and I am excited that we will be able to go back later this summer to take our daughter to see the dolphins, turtles, and various other sea creatures!

We saw some cool sea animals before the show. We even got to feed some stingrays!

The best part of the concert was our seats. Sea World offered a VIP seating package for a reasonable price, so I went ahead and purchased it as a special additional treat for my hubby. We were thrilled to discover this meant we would be inches from the stage! We were SO close to the band, we could see face pores and nose hairs! HAHA. What an honor for my man to have such great seats.

What a thrill to be so close! Well worth the money to see my husband so blessed & happy.

The best part of this weekend was getting to spend some quality time together. We are so thankful for friends and family who help us with our daughter so we can take these trips once or twice a year.

We have such fun together. I am so glad I married my best friend. What a great weekend we had!

  1. Wow! What a fantastic gift!!! 🙂 I’m so glad you found tickets!! THAT’S SUPER AWESOME!!! 😀 My love language is quality time and my husband’s is words of affirmation. I have a hard time still with his though b/c I am usually rough and dripping with sarcasm. =T It’s awful… I have a lot to work on 🙂 Thanks for sharing this – I ‘m so encouraged !

  2. What a great wife you are!! such cute pictures, it does look like you have fun together. I am so impressed by your awareness (and intentionality) with your husband’s love language. I know my husbands is words of affirmation but I have a hard time with that some days!

    • Gosh I know how you feel. Mine is acts of service (closely followed by quality time) which is difficult for my hubby sometimes. I struggle with gifts cause gifting doesn’t mean much to me. I have been trying to really focus on his language….but it certainly isn’t easy some days!

  3. This is awesome! So encouraging to see other marriages thriving 🙂 Thank you for sharing such sweet moments with your spouse!
